Pet Stress – Suggestions for dealing with my partner's animals?
My partner and I moved in together 5 years ago. At the time, he had 2 cats and 1 dog. They are all 13 years old. One cat vomits at least 2x per day and requires medicine to keep her from doing it more often, I guess. The dog is sweet but is old and deaf and requires a lot of attention now. BTW, the other cat is fine. The cat and dog are driving me crazy and are more a source of stress than anything else for me. I try to help take care of them, clean up after them, etc., but it is getting old.

I love my partner and appreciate these animals for what they mean to him. I don’t want to hurt him or force him to make any decisions that he’ll regret. But I’m on the verge of taking an apartment until they die or move on. Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation?

Well first you have to understand and respect that he’s had these pets much longer then you’ve been around and he loves them and really cares for them so them getting sick doesn’t annoy him it probably makes him sad, so try not be overly negative towards them and him. As for the cat that vomits all the time, what did the vet say? It can often be cured by trying a hairball medication to clear the throat or by upgrading the food to a better quality brand. If you really can’t take them then maybe you should move out until they pass because it’s really unfair to ask anything of else your partner who loves them .
